ASSEMBLY #906 - POPE SAINT JOHN XXIII REMEMBERS
HAROLD J WEIHMAN
DECEMBER 2015

Oct. 1, 1930 — Dec. 28, 2015

Harold J. Weihman was a Corvallis resident, after moving from New Jersey 20 years ago with his wife, Ann M. (McCusker) Weihman. His spouse has many family members who live in Oregon, and after retiring from 44 years working 12 and 14 hour days delivering milk, he returned to Oregon to be with her family. Born to Hannah Geiger and Carl Weihman on Oct. 1, 1930, Harold worked to help support his family from age 12. Upon graduating from high school, Harold enlisted in the United States Army. Before being shipped out to Korea in 1951, he married Grace Richardson, who preceded him in death in 1987.

Harold never lost his Jersey accent, and has many loving family members who still live in that state. He missed his granddaughter, Heather and often spoke about her. His Oregon family embraced him with love and inclusion. He often remarked, “I can’t believe youse (sic) guys really love me so much.” And he was loved.

If you knew Harold, in a month’s time he would have made you laugh at least a dozen times, and offend you at least once. If he was acknowledged as saying something particularly witty or insightful, he got a big grin on his face and commented, “I learned that in milkman school.”

As a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Harold served communion to the residents of the parish who were patients at Good Samaritan hospital in Corvallis. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus until he was no longer ambulatory.

Harold proudly served our country in Korea. He only shared his combat stories later in his life. Harold drove a self-propelled 8in Howitzer as a part of the 987th Armored Field Artillery Battalion.

Memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in Albany. He was in their loving and compassionate care on the day he passed, Dec. 28, 2015.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 at McHenry Funeral Home’s chapel in Corvallis.
