July 18, 1923 - April 17, 2014

Eugene Henry "Gene" Kuther passed away April 17, 2014, in Bend, Oregon. Gene, also fondly known as "Pooch", was born to the late Joseph and Antoinette Kuther in Ferdinand, Idaho July 18, 1923.

Gene served in World War II, and the Korean War. He married Elizabeth "Bettie" Duman in 1947.

Gene dedicated his career to the construction industry. Gene and Bettie retired to Ferdinand, Idaho, where Gene served two terms as mayor. Later they lived in The Dalles, Redmond, and Bend, Oregon.

Gene was an avid bowler, and enjoyed golf. He was known for his skill in "Pitch", the card game. Gene will be remembered for his positive and caring attitude, his giant heart, and the way he made all feel welcome in his presence.

Gene is survived by Bettie, his wife of 66 years; four sons, Bernie and Dena Kuther, Jerry and Patsi Kuther, Cliff and Leslie Kuther, and Ed and Carol Kuther; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Cletus Kuther, Katherine (Bain), Antoinette (Haugen), and Marlene (Van Metre).

Preceding Gene in death were siblings, Leonard Kuther, Elaine (Kinzer), and Marie (Duman).

Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 9 at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland Oregon 97086.
