Beloyed John “B.J.†Schwegman, 88, of Lebanon, died Tuesday at his home.
He was born Nov. 3, 1918 in Beaulieu, Minnesota and graduated from High School in 1936 in Okarche, OK. B.J. entered the U.S. Navy in October 1937 and went to Sea aboard the USS Chicago. He served in W.W.II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He retired for the Navy several times only to be called back to duty because of his extensive knowledge of the atom bomb and ship motors. He later became an undercover investigator and remained semi-employed by the Navy until his death. He had been awarded several metals throughout his career.
He married Marcheta Polsinoin in 1942; she preceded him in death in 1995.
B.J. was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #51. He had run for mayor of Lebanon in 1988 and was very interested in Politics. His family wishes to give many thanks to Don and Iline Blanshan for the wonderful care he received before his death.
He is survived by brothers: Al of Lakeland, FL, Don of Grove, OK, Larry of Las Vegas, NV, Jerry of Afton, OK, Wayne of Lake Hill, TX, sister: Rose Harmon of San Antonia, TX, two step-grandchildren: Norman and Richard Grant both of Santa Barbara, CA. He was preceded in death by sisters: Delores Barrios and Ione Schneider, and step-daughter: Dana Marcoz.
Viewing will be from 2 to 5 PM, Thursday, at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM, Friday, followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, both at St. Edward’s Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.
