April 6, 1928 - September 9, 2005

John E. Gray, of Dale City died peacefully in his home on Sept. 9, 2005, surrounded by his family. John was 77 years old. He was a proud veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW, the Knights of Columbus and the Woodbridge Wireless (amateur radio) Club. He realized a dream when he became a certified captain in the Maritime Service and proudly sailed many tour boats for the Potomac Riverboat Company.

He was a longtime member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Emergency Asssistance Fund of Holy Family to help the hungry and homeless of the parish. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rita Gray; his daughters, Melody Wong, Wanda Ward and Jacqueline Carrico; his brother Jim Swedberg and his sister, Virginia Zwicke; six grandchildren, Miranda Calhoun and Matthew Wong, Monica, Reilly and Dana Ward and Justin Carrico; one great grandchild, John Calhoun.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday Sept. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City. There will be a mass on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Rd., Dale City, with interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
