COUNCIL #7165 - JOHN PAUL I REMEMBERS
NAZIR R. KHAN

November 29, 1938 - July 6, 2017

Nazir Raphael Khan, 78, of Dale City, VA, departed this life and entered into eternal life on Thursday, July 6, 2017. He was a native of Arima, Trinidad, West Indies, and was the son of the late Hassim & Afferan Khan. He was preceded in death by his brothers Rostam Khan, Razack Khan, and Raffit Khan; and his aunt Myra “Sootoorie” Seyjagat, who raised him following the passing of his parents.

Nazir married the love of his life Mary A. Khan of St. Joseph, Trinidad on September 3, 1961, and from this union had one son – Bertrand R. Khan of Santa Clarita, CA, and one daughter – Malah L. Khan of Dale City, VA.

In Trinidad, Nazir was a police constable where he served on the force as a skilled marksman. He provided security for Trinidad & Tobago’s first Prime Minister, Eric Williams, and was tasked with many special assignments including providing security detail for The Queen of Great Britain and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburg during their visit in 1966. In 1970, Nazir & his family migrated to Brooklyn, New York, where he would embark on a new journey as an employee of the Mobil Oil Corporation. Over the next 10 years, he developed lifelong friendships with his co-workers and neighbors who quickly became family. It was also during this time that Nazir became a naturalized U.S. Citizen. In 1980, following the relocation of the Mobil headquarters to Fairfax, Virginia, Nazir & family moved to Dale City, Virginia. Nazir retired from Mobil in 1996 after over 26 years of dedicated service, having worked his way up from the Mailroom to the Finance Department as a Purchasing Analyst. After several years of retirement & various travels, Nazir re-entered the workforce as a bus driver for Prince William County Public Schools, then transitioned to Sam’s Club as a Greeter & Customer Service associate.

Nazir loved spending time with his family and friends, and loved good music and a good lime (West Indian term for gathering or hanging out). He also loved hunting, carpentry, and was a phenomenal cook, and skilled mechanic. Nazir believed that everyone should live up to their full potential, and encouraged his children and grandchildren to shoot for the stars, and continue to “better themselves”. He also believed in being a blessing to others and helping those who were in need.

Nazir was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, John Paul I Council #7165, and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church since 1980. He also served as an Usher at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.

Nazir was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 56 years, Mary A. Khan; two children, Bertrand Khan, and Malah Khan
