COUNCIL #7165 - JOHN PAUL I REMEMBERS
JEROME D. ALEXANDER

July 16, 1938 - December 10, 2018

Jerome D. Alexander went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2018 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of 52 years to Judith A. (Wesley) Alexander. Loving father of Mia-Maria, Lawrence, and Christina Alexander. Cherished grandfather of Kaylin, Cameron, Megan, Olivia, and Lauren Alexander. Dear brother of Mary Ann Hammond (late Louis), Hattie Jean Greer (Bozie), and Alston (Margaret) Alexander. He was predeceased by his brother James (survived by his wife Charlotte). Jerome was born in Louisville, KY, son of late Alston and Alma Alexander.

Jerome lived a life of service to God, the Nation, and the community. Jerome served our country for over 50 years: 20 years in the Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer; and then another 30 years in the Department of the Interior, as one of the pioneering computer specialists both in military and civil service.

Consummate professional, always driven to serve others even after his retirement, Jerome continuously contributed to the church and community activities. Jerome was one of the founding parish members of Holy Family Catholic Church, who attended the Daily Mass and Devotional Prayers at Holy Family and Our Lady of Angels Catholic Churches and served in the Knights of Columbus for many decades. People also appreciated Jerome’s helpfulness as the Usher at the Basilica at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manassas VA.

Jerome will be remembered affectionately by family and friends as a loving person, and by his community members and former colleagues for his dedicated service. He was a friendly and helpful neighbor to everyone, but he was especially devoted to the Dominican Sisters in the neighborhood. Jerome was always happy to help the Sisters at the convent, to include taking care of their gardens and mail during their absence, any needs that came up, and delivering the Christmas tree all the way till the week before his passing. His eagerness to help and neighborly friendship was greatly appreciated and will be remembered fondly. When he was not involved in activities of serving others, Jerome stayed active with building and renovation projects and enjoyed keeping his mind engaged with crossword puzzles and sudoku. Jerome also took great pleasure in bragging about his grandchildren, who will always remember him with profound love and appreciation for his extraordinary kindness and sense of humor.

The family will receive friends at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Road, Dale City, VA 22193 on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 10:30AM until his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM. Internment with Full Navy Honors will follow at 1:00PM in Quantico National Cemetery.
