Brothers in Christ.

First of all, I wish you and your families best wishes and good health in the New Year. May it be full of joy and happiness.

The time just keeps on going by, as we already are half way through this fraternal year. Even though we are a small and “aging” council, we can look back with pride of the different activities like participation in a couple of parades, Bass Derby, Christmas social etc. I would like to thank every Brother for the help in the many activities for the Knights as well as other engagements (church, Mediterranean dinner, Virgen de Guadalupe dinner), to name a few.

With sadness I have to report the death of two brother Knights, Bob Larkin and just last week we lost Brother Robert Clark. May they have eternal peace and may God give their family the strength to overcome their loss.

We also were able to put to good use some of the collected money. This way we could help some of the fire victims, Christmas 94571 and Rio Vista Community Services. But we still need the help of everyone for our planned events, especially the up-coming Salmon Dinner on 2/19/2016 (please make sure we sell all the tickets). The money collected from the salmon dinner will directly benefit the local St. Vincent de Paul and Rio Vista Community Services.

Please consult the Fraternal Calendar for all the up-coming events. Without your participation we can do nothing. One event of note - the Annual Walk for Life is being held in San Francisco on January 23.  We will have information in the Mass bulletins and announcements and in the event calendar on this site.  Please join us in this important show of strength. Also, if you have not done already, please send in the annual dues.

If you know of a catholic man, please ask him to join the great order of the Knights of Columbus. Again, best wishes and God’s blessings.

Vivat Jesus,
Moritz Keller GK

SPIRITUAL REFLECTION - September 23, 2015

Dear Worthy Knights,

Pope Francis,

I just watched the Pope land at Dulles Airport in Washington DC.  The TV New Stations were hyper active in trying to explain why this is such a big deal.  (And it is!!!) Yes, its news.

I once read that, - "news is when an extraordinary person (like Pope Francis) does something ordinary, and when ordinary people do something extraordinary (like Knights of Columbus helping the pastor with projects around the parish). I thought about this for a while and then it hit me.

We are extraordinary too, when we represent the Body of Christ at the local level (in Rio Vista  and Isleton).  The Pope represents Christ to the world.  Yes, His is a bigger audience. But when we act locally, with Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism we are very unique in todays society.

My Brothers, when we act as members of the Knights of Columbus Council in Rio Vista and Isleton, we are proclaiming "The Good News".  And that's pretty extra-ordinary in today's society.

May God Bless us,
Deacon Bill

September 2015

Brothers in Christ.

I hope you all had a pleasant and safe summer. Now that most of the schools and colleges are getting back into session and our children and grandchildren are busy with their regular occupations again, we as Knights should also think with renewed spirit about our tasks and responsibilities.

We already had a very good start to our fraternal year. The officers had already a few meetings to ponder about the many chores and changes ahead. Some of them are:
- Our meetings now start at 6:30 PM with a social gathering prior to the council meeting.
- Now that the religious education for the school children is no longer on a Sunday, we will again (at least 3 - 4 times/year) organize light breakfasts at the church hall. The first "light breakfast" was held last weekend Aug. 30, 2015. Thank you brother Heinz for organizing it! These events should expose the knights to the community, but also further the social aspects of the community.
- Raffle ticket sales - our main fund raiser. The tickets should be in the mail soon.
- Bass Derby - we will again have a booth to sell the raffle tickets
- Please consult the Fraternal Calendar for more events

May we keep in mind the prayer intention of our Holy Father Francis:
"That volunteers may give themselves generously to the service of the needy".

Vivat Jesus,
Moritz Keller
