GRAND KNIGHT'S MESSAGE MAY 2026

My Fellow Brother Knights:

The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

On Sunday, May 17th, we celebrate The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. The Ascension is always celebrated 40 days after Easter and commemorates the moment when the risen Christ, in the sight of his apostles, ascended bodily into heaven. It is the time in which the earthly mission of Jesus has been completed and marks the beginning of his glory at the right hand of the Father. The Ascension is our reminder that our true home is heaven and that Jesus has gone before to prepare a room for us in his Father’s house.

State Convention in Visalia

This month, Deputy Grand Knight Richmond Zapp and I will attend our Knights of Columbus State Convention in Visalia from Thursday, May 14th through Sunday, May 17th. Instituted on May 12, 1903, the California State Council is the governing body for the Knights of Columbus in California. The State Council is responsible for governing over 78,000 members in 716 Councils and 16 Chapters.

Council Brothers,

California Columbian Charities: Supporting Brothers in Need

Upcoming State Convention: A Focus on Charity

The Parade of Grand Knights

During the convention, there will be a special event known as the “Parade of Grand Knights.” At this time, each Grand Knight or Council delegate will step forward to present their council’s donation to the charity collection. This tradition highlights the unity and generosity within our community.

Our Council’s Ongoing Commitment

For many years, our council has faithfully contributed to California Columbian Charities. Once again, this year, Grand Knight Scott will continue this tradition by presenting our council’s donation during the Parade of Grand Knights. These collective efforts have made a significant difference over the years.

Impact Through the Years

Since its founding, California Columbian Charities has provided over $3,600,000 in assistance to more than 2,400 Brothers over the past 70 years. This remarkable support would not be possible without the generosity of councils across the state.

How to Request Assistance

If you know of a Brother Knight who is in need of help, please reach out to our Grand Knight for an interview and guidance with the application process. It is important that we continue to look out for one another in times of need.

God Bless,

Alex Castanon

State Life Programs Chairman
