Jan. 24, 1945 - Nov. 8, 2013
David Ray Baldassano, 68, formerly of Albany, courageously lost his battle with Parkinson's and dementia on Nov. 8.

He was born in El Paso, Texas, and retired from the Navy after 23 years. He started a second career working at the College of Forestry at Oregon State University, where he also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology.

He lived in North Albany and every Christmas would place a large star on the roof for all to enjoy. He belonged to St. Mary's parish and the Knights of Columbus. David reactivated the Boy Scout troop from St. Mary. For five years he lived on the road as an RV'er finally settling in Florida to be close to his children.

Survivors include wife, Angie Deffenbaugh; daughter Accursia; son David A.; and four grandchildren.
